Halabja Disabled Organization (HDO)

Halabja Disabled Organization (HDO) is a non-profit organization established in 2013 in response to the pervasive injustices, discrimination, and lack of support experienced by individuals with disabilities and vulnerable populations. HDO is dedicated to working closely with people facing disabilities and other vulnerable groups, actively addressing their essential needs, enhancing their living conditions, and advocating for the respect of their dignity and fundamental rights. HDO places a strong emphasis on promoting diversity and inclusion in its initiatives.

Halabja Disabled Organization met with the general committee of schools (Dlin and Hawar).
The meeting emphasized the following points:
???? Renovation of schools: The representative of the organization highlighted the renovation projects of both schools, which have been implemented according to international standards of "universal education", to meet the needs of all students.
???? They discussed the preparation of a "comprehensive room" with all the equipment and supplies. The relevant parties and committees, while congratulating them, stressed the importance of using these rooms to further serve the educational process.
???? Drafting appropriate plans to overcome the obstacles facing the education process.
Finally, Mr. (Awara) was thanked as an active member of the general committee for providing electricity to Hawar school.

Representative of Halabja Disabled Organization visited Dlin and Hawar schools. In a meeting with the committee to solve the problems of students with disabilities, the process of renovation of schools and preparation for examinations were discussed, especially in terms of facilitation and changing the method of questions. The importance of intensifying teachers' efforts to work with second cycle students was also emphasized.

UNESCO, in partnership with People in Need (PiN), convened a roundtable in Erbil on “Crisis-Responsive Education: Preparedness, Continuity of Learning, and the Role of Online Modalities.”
The roundtable, chaired by Halabja Disabled Organization (HDO), brought together representatives from the Ministry of Education in the Kurdistan Region, school leaders, PTAs, and CSOs from members of the Iraqi Civil Society Education Forum established by UNESCO.
The discussion focused on strengthening preparedness, ensuring learning continuity during crises, and addressing challenges related to online and blended learning. Participants also reflected on the recent regional conflict and its impact on education in Kurdistan Region, particularly examining measures taken by the Ministry of Education, existing gaps, and recommendations to enhance preparedness for future crises.
The session concluded with key recommendations aimed at strengthening coordination, promoting inclusive approaches, and building a more resilient education system. The roundtable was organized under the ITALEEM project, supported by the European Union.
